Linda Lucero Fragua is from Jemez Pueblo. She uses local clays and natural slips to create her storytellers.
The pottery figures, called Story Tellers, commemorate the oral tradition of Elders telling children stories they had heard in their youth. Folk Tales, religion and customs were passed from one generation to the next.
The Pueblos of New Mexico developed their own styles and decorations and these styles are a live art, constantly changing but always using tradition as the touchstone.
