Effigies and clay figures have been a part of native culture for as long as there have been people on the North American Continent. The Pueblos of New Mexico developed their own styles and decorations and these styles are a live art, constantly changing but always using tradition as the touchstone. The Pueblo storytellers honor the oral traditions of these Native American people.
